Solidarity Fund rules

The plain version. Every number on this page comes from the fund’s configuration, the same one the app will use.

Version 1.1 · Reviewed every quarter by the board

Grants are discretionary. They are not insurance, and meeting the criteria does not mean a grant is automatic.

What the fund is for

The fund collects $0.29 of every $0.99 and sends one-time grants to members who lose work because of a deactivation, an injury on the job, or violence while working. A grant doesn’t change the app’s decision. It helps you stay on your feet while you appeal or recover.

Grants are decided by people

The board can adjust amounts, limits and criteria every quarter, based on what the fund can afford. Changes are announced 30 days in advance and apply only to applications made after the announcement.

Types of grants

TypeWhenWhat you send
DeactivationAn app deactivated your account and it lasted at least 14 days. The deactivation notice, proof you sent an appeal, and proof the app account is yours.
Injury on the jobAn accident while working kept you from working for at least 7 days.A medical or emergency room record, a record showing you were working that day, and a police report if there is one.
Violence while workingAssault, robbery, or theft of your car or e-bike while working.A police report or medical record, and a record showing you were working that day.

Who can apply

  1. Your paid membership is active when you apply.
  2. You have at least 90 days of continuous paid membership. No exceptions, founders included.
  3. The incident happened after your first 90 days. An incident during the waiting period can’t be submitted later.
  4. The app account was connected and verified before the incident, or can be verified by forwarding the app’s email.
  5. Your cooldown has passed: 24 months since your last deactivation grant, 12 months since your last injury or violence grant.
  6. Identity check passed. This happens only when a grant is paid.

Monthly cap and public queue

Each month the fund pays up to 1.25× the average monthly amount it received over the last 3 months. If approvals go over the cap, they wait in a public first-come, first-served queue and are paid on the first business day of the next month.

Reserve

The fund keeps a reserve equal to 6 months of average payments. If it falls below that, the board must lower amounts the next quarter.

Separate account, yearly audit

Fund money is kept in a separate, restricted bank account. It can’t be moved to pay for operations. An independent audit is published every year, and a monthly report shows applications, approvals, total paid and average time, with no personal information.

Decision codes

Every decision that says no, or not yet, comes with one of these codes.
