Questions
Is this a union?
Union of Drivers is a member association, not a labor union under the NLRA. Most app-based drivers and couriers are classified as independent contractors, so labor law doesn’t let anyone bargain for them. What a member-owned guild can do: stewards, a solidarity fund, and campaigns aimed at City Hall and state government.
Is the fund insurance?
Grants are discretionary. They are not insurance, and meeting the criteria does not mean a grant is automatic. A person reviews every application, the queue is public, and the rules are the same for everyone.
What if I’m deactivated before day 90?
Once the app is live, you still get a steward and the appeal guide. You can’t get a grant for an incident that happens in your first 90 days, and you can’t apply for it later. The rule is the same for everyone, founders included.
Do the apps find out I joined?
No. We never connect to your driver apps, and we never share our member list with any app company. If you tell people, that’s your choice.
Is $0.99 the whole price?
Yes. $0.99 a month, billed every month. There is no yearly plan. The price stays $0.99 for the first 10,000 founding members for as long as the membership stays active. Card processing is already inside the $0.99, not added on top.
Why $0.99?
It’s low enough to keep without thinking about it, and it still funds the Solidarity Fund. Of each $0.99: $0.29 to the fund, $0.12 to stewards, $0.10 to campaigns, $0.15 to technology, and $0.33 to card processing and admin.
Who runs this?
A nonprofit member association. A 9-seat board governs it, and 5 seats are elected by active drivers and couriers. The first election is in month 12, and every founding member votes. The app is built by a separate technology company paid a fixed fee, so it doesn’t earn more from your data or your dues.
Do I need papers or an SSN?
No. We never ask for your SSN or your immigration status. To join, we ask for your name, phone number, ZIP code and the apps you work on. If you ever receive a fund grant, we’ll verify your identity at that point with an ID document, through our payment provider.
What do I get when I join?
Today you get a founding member number, a member card, the $0.99 price, and a vote in the first board election in month 12. The hourly calculator, the deactivation checklist and the fund rules are on this site. Fund applications open after 90 days of paid membership. We’ll text you. No spam.
Can you get my account back?
Nobody honest can promise that. A steward helps you prepare and send a strong appeal and follows it with you. For advice about your situation, talk to a licensed attorney.
Will you tell me which orders to take or when to work?
No. We don’t give advice about which orders to take, what to charge or when to work. Our campaigns speak to government and the public, and ask for fair rules and transparency for everyone.
Can I cancel?
Yes, any month, from the link in your Stripe receipt email. Cancelling stops the next monthly charge. Your founding price stays $0.99 for as long as you keep the membership.
